Common OptiDriver Error Messages

If you encounter an error that is not listed here, call Optisys Technical Support for assistance.

  • Error Message: "Your Evaluation period has elapsed."
"If you have further questions call Optisys at (623) 362-3433."
    Possible Causes:
    · You are using an Evaluation copy of OptiDriver-2000, which has exceeded its allotted time limit.
    Solution:
    · Purchase a standard version of OptiDriver-2000, or call Optisys to request another evaluation version.

  • Error Message: "Possible Licensing Violation"
    Possible Causes:
    · You have moved the hard-drive OptiDriver-2000 was installed on to a different computer.
    · You are attempting to install OptiDriver-2000 from a copy of the original diskette.
    · You have changed the system's motherboard, CPU, or BIOS.
    · Optisys master disks keep track of how many different CPUs, or what amounts to the same thing - BIOS, motherboard, etc. - the software has been installed on. If the Optisys disk is used for installation on more than three systems (fourth installation on a different CPU), it will say that a possible licensing violation has occurred, and immediately abort installation.
    Solution:
    · Use the original master disk and run the install program from it.
    · Use a system with an existing version of OptiDriver-2000. Your licensing agreement provides for installation on one system. You may re-install OptiDriver as many times as you wish on that system.
    · Under certain circumstances, Optisys may be able to refurbish the disk. Please call Optisys Technical Support for details.
    · If you are "testing" Optisys software on different PCs, it is recommended that you call Optisys to request an evaluation version of the program. Evaluation versions have unlimited installations, but will expire after thirty days, so that you may test our software on as many PCs as you like during the evaluation period.

  • Error Message: "Access Denied"
    Possible Causes:
    · You are attempting to write data to the root directory of a jukebox or stand-alone drive that has LABELS enabled.
    Solution:
    · In a jukebox environment, the user cannot copy files to the root directory of the jukebox drive letter. The root directory is reserved for platter volumes only. You must path the copy command to at least one subdirectory level for the copy command to work properly.
    · For stand-alone drives that have LABELS enabled, you must follow the same rules as you would for jukeboxes, or disable LABELS by REMarking them out in the OPTIDRVR.CFG file. See the OPTIDRVR.CFG section in this manual for details.

  • Error Message: "OD_Error loading aspi Mgr"
    Possible Causes:
    · Unable to read configuration of host adapter aspi4dos.sys failed.
    Solution:
    · Need to add the port address of the SCSI card in the aspi4dosy.sys /p130
Note: You will need to bring up windows and check the setting of the SCSI card in order to get the port address of the card.

  • Error Message: "OptiDriver is not loaded"
    Possible Causes and Solutions:
    · Check the SCSI devices for proper SCSI id settings. Robotics SCSI id's must be set prior to Drive id's in jukeboxes. ...0 thru 7
    · If attaching multiple devices, try drive or standalone device first, then manually add other devices.
    · The attached SCSI devices must be turned on and in the ready state before OptiDriver is loaded or the PC is turned on.

  • Error Message: "OptiDriver is not up"
    Possible Causes:
    · VXD file not loaded properly from Windows 95/98 system.ini file. File may have been restored from a backup the system.ini file or deleted the line in the enh section. (Note: No VXD file should be listed if DOS or Win 3.x is being used)
    Solution:
    · Need to add this to system.ini file:
    · device=c:\optidrvr\optiapi.vxd. Then remove the optical devices from device manager.

  • Error Message: "Error loading adapter layer"
    Possible Causes:
    · Aspi4dos.sys or Aspi8dos.sys file not loaded properly.
    Solution:
    · Need to add this line to config.sys file and make sure the correct ASPI file is on the system in the right directory.
    · device=c:\scsi\aspi4dos.sys

Optisys Supports the following SCSI Adapters:

  • Adaptec:
Must support Group 1 commands, but the 1505 and 1520 only support Group 0.  Group 1 support is required for GLOBALNET™ and OptiDriver 2000 products, though every card manufactured within the last few years is Group 1 enabled.  Most Group 1 enabled adapter recognized by Win95 will work, though aspi4dos.sys and aspi8dos.sys are still required in the config.sys.
Group 0 commands only support 24 bits of address, while Group 1 commands support 32 bits.   For 5.2 gig drives, Group 1 is required and addresses the entire media, requiring 25 bits to do so.
Supported SCSI Adapters and cables needed
    Adaptec 1542CF - 50 pin male Centronics
Adaptec 2940 - 50 pin male HD SCSI 2 small
Adaptec 2920 - 50 pin male HD SCSI 2 small
*Adaptec 2910 - 50 pin male HD SCSI 2 small
**Adaptec 2944 - 68 pin male HD SCSI 2 wide small (for differential only)
    * - Most current
    ** - Differential only
    Adaptec 1510 - 50 pin male Centronics.
We DO NOT support the 1520B or 1505.

If you are using an ASPI compatible host adapter, make sure you are
loading the proper ASPI driver in the CONFIG.SYS file. For example, the
Adaptec 1542 board would require the line DEVICE=ASPI4DOS.SYS in the
CONFIG.SYS file. (This path assumes you have the file ASPI4DOS.SYS in
the root directory). If you did not obtain ASPI-type driver files with
your ASPI-type board, contact your host adapter dealer or manufacturer.
If you are using an NCR adapter make sure you are loading DOSCAM.SYS
    in the CONFIG.SYS.
Also, you may want to read the sections of your OptiDriver manual titled
Hardware Installation, SCSI Cabling, and Supported SCSI Devices.
